What is it?

KUIU’s Quixdown® is a premium goose down insulation that goes through a proprietary cleaning process, and then treated with a durable water repellent (DWR) to each plume of down, making it nearly impervious to water.

Why do we use it in our gear?

It’s the highest quality down available, resistant to water, and will maintain insulating loft even if it gets wet. Down has the highest warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation, now with Quixdown you can tackle the toughest and wettest mountain hunts without the fear of your down wetting out.

What makes it the best?

The down is refined and processed by Kawada Feather in Japan. Their proprietary techniques perfect the down to a remarkable high-loft 850+ fill power and 95:5 down-to-feather ratio. Once cleaned, the down is treated with Toray’s DWR, making it resist wetout far better than our competitor’s water-resistant down.

PROVEN BY IDFL INDEPENDENT TESTING

The International Down and Feather Laboratory (IDFL), based in Salt Lake City, UT is the world’s largest and foremost authority on testing down for loft, fill power, down percentage, and DWR.

When in the market for a new down product, it’s important to look for performance that’s backed up by a reputable third-party source, rather than relying on marketing claims alone.This testing keeps everyone honest. All Quixdown used in KUIU’s products is tested and certified by the IDFL.

WATERPROOF TESTING

In this video, the IDFL explains the Hydrophobic Shake Test, its importance, and its benefits. In a real-world technology test, two jars are filled with down and water, and are shaken to test their ability to repel water over time.

HYDROPHOBIC SHAKE TEST RESULTS

In the tests performed by the IDFL, Quixdown and two industry leading DWR treated downs were tested for their ability to repel water. Competitor A became saturated in 94 minutes and Competitor B became saturated in 304 minutes. After 1000 minutes, Quixdown showed no signs of saturation.
