KUIU Layering System

WHY DOES KUIU BUILD HUNTING GEAR AS A LAYERING SYSTEM?
Our skin-to-shell layering system works two-fold by regulating your temperature on the inside during high- and low-level activity, while keeping you protected on the outside from challenging weather conditions. By keeping your temperature regulated, you’ll spend less time warming up, cooling down, and drying out—which equals more time effectively hunting.

HOW DO THE LAYERS FIT TOGETHER?
Each layer of the system features its own fit type and purpose. The base, mid, and outer layers gradually get larger with each layer, so they comfortably fit together. Once you know your measured size and the fit type of each garment, it will help take the guesswork out of building your kit.

BASE LAYER
LAYERING POSITION: Worn next to skin
MATERIALS: Ultralight knits: Merino and Polyester
PURPOSE: Worn in all conditions. Wicks sweat and moisture. Keeps you feeling dry and comfortable. UPF Protection.

SERIES: Peloton 118 | ULTRA Merino 120 and 145

MID LAYER- FLEECE
LAYERING POSITION: Worn over a base layer and sized slightly larger

OUTER LAYER- PANTS
LAYERING POSITION: Worn on their own over a brief, or over a base layer thermal bottom.

***KUIU soft shell jackets and mid-Layer insulated jackets are sized similarly. If you’re planning to wear an insulated jacket under a soft-shell jacket, upsizing the soft shell one size is recommended.

OUTER LAYER- WATERPROOF RAIN GEAR
LAYERING POSITION: Worn over a base layer, mid-layer fleece, and mid-layer insulation. Sized slightly larger than an insulated mid layer and outer-layer soft shell, so upsizing is not required
MATERIALS: 3-layer Polyester and Nylon, Waterproof/Breathable Membrane
PURPOSE: Protection from heavy wind and rain.
CATEGORIES: Waterproof hooded jackets and zip-off pants.
SERIES: Chugach TR | KUIU Kutana Storm Shell | Yukon TR

OUTER LAYER- INSULATED

Do's and Don’ts of Layering
DO: Layer an outer-layer fitted item over mid-layer fit item.
A base layer, mid-layer fleece, mid-layer insulated jacket, and an outer-layer fit rain jacket, all in the same size, will comfortably layer together.
DO: Upsize your soft-shell jackets if you plan to add multiple mid layers underneath.
DON'T: Try to wear two outer-layer fit jackets in the same size together.
An outer layer rain jacket will compress the insulation of an outer-layer fit insulated jacket, reducing its ability to keep you warm.
DON'T: Try to wear a mid-layer fit insulated jacket over an outer-layer fit soft shell jacket.
The overall fit on an insulated mid-layer jacket is designed to layer under a waterproof rain jacket or an insulated outer layer.
